Malrotation with midgut volvulus of the newborn drawing
Malrotation with midgut volvulus of the newborn; anatomical findings at operation. The drawing depicts a volvulus of the small intestine with four complete turns at the mesenteric root at the site of origin of the superior mesenteric artery, completely obstructing the duodenum. The error in rotation is shown by malposition of cecum, appendix and terminal ileum in the left upper quadrant.
