Clinical History:
The patient was a newborn male. On a prenatal ultrasound performed at
7 months for polyhydramnios, a cystic chest lesion was noted in the
right chest. At birth, the patient was asymptomatic.
Clinical Physical Exam:
Unremarkable
Clinical Labs:
Non-contributory
Clinical Differential Diagnosis:
Cystic adenomatoid malformation, congenital lobar emphysema,
bronchogenic cyst.
Imaging Findings:
Chest films showed a heterogenous mass in the right chest. A chest CT
exam showed the mass to be cystic in nature.
Imaging Differential Diagnosis:
Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation, Type I
Operative Findings:
The lesion was removed electively, at one month of age.
Pathological Findings:
Pathological examination of the surgical specimen revealed findings
characteristic for Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation, Type I.
Final Diagnosis:
Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation, Type I
Follow-up and Prognosis:
The patient had an uncomplicated post-operative course.
