Contraindications to steroid premedication
History of active tuberculosis, systemic fungal infection, peptic
ulcer disease or diverticulitis within the last year
Adults
1. If you have sufficient time before the exam:
Prednisone 10 mg po tid x 3 days
Benadryl 50 mg IM x 1 < 1 hr before exam (just before exam)
2. If you don't have sufficient time before the exam:
Prednisone 40 mg po 12 hr before exam and then again 2 hr po before
study
Benadryl 50 mg IM x 1 < 1 hr before exam (just before exam)
Children
Prednisone dosage is 1 mg/kg with same frequency as above
Benadryl dosage is 1.5 mg/kg IM < 1 hr before exam (just before
exam)
